FAQs
Why should I take a prenatal yoga class?
Much like other types of childbirth-preparation classes, prenatal yoga is a multifaceted approach to exercise that encourages stretching, mental centering, and focused breathing. Research suggests that prenatal yoga is safe and can have many benefits for pregnant women and their babies.
Prenatal yoga can:
Improve sleep
Reduce stress and anxiety
Increase the strength, flexibility, and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth
Decrease lower back pain, nausea, headaches, and shortness of breath
Prenatal yoga can also help you meet and bond with other pregnant women and prepare for the stress of being a new parent.
More evidence-based information on the benefits of prenatal yoga can be found here and here.
I’ve never practiced yoga before, can I start now?
Yes! Prenatal yoga is designed to honor the needs and limitations of pregnancy. All postures can be modified to the level of the student.
How long into my pregnancy can I practice Yoga?
You can practice prenatal yoga from the start of your pregnancy right up until you give birth. A portion of each class will focus on poses you can practice during labor.
How will practicing prenatal yoga help my delivery?
By strengthening the essential muscles needed for birth, connecting with your breath, and focusing your mind. Prenatal yoga can help prepare you for the challenges your labor, birth, and recovery may bring - no matter the type of birth you have.
When can I start postnatal yoga?
This will vary by individual and your type of birth. For vaginal births, it is recommended you wait until postpartum bleeding has stopped, usually around 4-6 weeks after birth.
For cesarean births, it is recommended you wait 6 weeks or until you are cleared by your doctor for exercise.
If you are unsure if you are ready, please consult with your doctor before returning to exercise.
Can I bring my baby to postnatal yoga?
Yes! This is a parent-focused class, but children are welcome to attend. Please note childcare is not included but you can care for your child during class however you need.

Why should I practice baby and me yoga?
Because it’s fun! This class is meant to incorporate the joy of playing with your child, aiding their development, and getting in some postnatal yoga for yourself. This dual-focused class is a great way to reconnect with your own body while spending time with your baby.
Do you teach non-prenatal yoga?
Yes! Just send me a message and I will be happy to teach a class that meets your needs. I have previously taught vinyasa yoga, breathwork, and guided meditation classes.
