Benefits of Toddler Yoga

Yoga has long been a favored activity for adults seeking to strengthen their bodies, increase flexibility, and find a sense of peace and balance. But, yoga isn't just for adults - our toddlers can also benefit and find joy in this ancient practice. As a parent, you may be looking for ways to help your child grow and develop while doing fun new activities together. Our Little Movers toddler yoga class could be a perfect fit for your family. Here's why:

1. Increases Flexibility

Little toddler bodies are developing rapidly. Yoga helps improve flexibility, making it easier for them to move and play. Flexibility helps your child’s body stay safe while they explore new skills like bending, twisting, and lifting.

2. Strengthens Growing Bodies

Yoga poses help toddlers strengthen their growing bodies, in particular their core muscles. This can help them master new skills like crawling, walking, and jumping. The practice of trying new shapes with their bodies also builds stability when moving from crawling to walking and walking to running.

3. Grows Confidence

The sense of accomplishment that comes with mastering a new skill can help boost a toddler's confidence. Yoga involves safe risk taking activities that help a toddler realize they can do things they couldn't do before. Trying new activities in a group setting with their parents' support can help a toddler feel more secure and confident in their abilities.

4. Social Emotional Development

In our Little Movers class, toddlers will learn to interact with others in a respectful and compassionate way. They will have opportunities to listen and follow instructions while working together with their peers and caregivers. Practicing yoga gives a child new ways to experience, manage, and express their emotions. Our group setting allows each child to explore and engage with each other and their new child friendly environment curated specifically to encourage development.

5. Promotes Sleep

It is recommended that toddlers get at least 30 minutes of structured, adult-led, physical activity each day to help them sleep better at night. Yoga is a great way to meet this recommendation and have your little one get the activity they need during the day to sleep soundly at night. A good night's sleep is essential for a toddler's growth and development, and can make a world of difference to their mood and behavior (and yours).

6. It's Fun!

Little movers is a fun and enjoyable activity for toddlers and caregivers to do together while meeting other families. All of the poses are adapted to be playful and engaging, using songs, animal noises, and fun props like bells, scarves, and the big parachute. We make yoga a game we all get to play together.

If you’d like to try out Little Movers yoga with your toddler join us at 4:30pm on Tuesdays bi-weekly at The Den, 2900 Zuni St. Denver, CO.

We look forward to seeing you there!
